Taschen Store opening in Soho

TASCHEN Store New York
Pre-renovation holiday opening
November 18th – December 31st, 2005
107 Greene Street, Soho
Mon-Sat 11am to 8pm, Sun 12pm to 7pm

The New York TASCHEN Store will open on Greene Street in SoHo. Ultimately designed by Philippe Starck, a temporary shop will be open for holiday sales from November 18th to December 31st. The grand opening of the finished shop is scheduled for spring 2006.

The first 50 customers to visit the shop on November 18th will receive a $50 voucher!

Chip Kidd at Cooper Union

November 17, 2005-February 4, 2006
To coincide with the new book, Chip Kidd: Book One (work: 1996-2006), the Cooper Union presents an exhibition of Chip Kidd's "books, sketches, ideas, etc.". There is a free lecture on January 26th. For more info, visit the Cooper Union site.

No more blurry photos

According to Gizmodo, technology is being developed that could refocus fuzzy photographs after they are taken. Think of how much easier this would make our lives... crappy client photos no longer such a nightmare... I'm curious to see where this goes.

Comic Sans

Young Frederik Samuel, who was mentioned in a previous post has launched a campaign against Comic Sans. Understandable, though the comments he's getting reveal this bit of interesting trivia about the typeface: "Sadly, research shows that Comic Sans is the most readily available, readable typeface for dyslexics—it has an asymmetric design that makes character shapes easier to differentiate (Lexia Readable takes Comic Sans and tries to improve it and not lose the readability but it is still pretty ugly)." Who knew?

Huff title design wins Emmy

For those of you interested in title design, the Apple Pro Design page is featuring Shilo Design. Shilo won an Emmy for Outstanding Main Title Design for their work on the Showtime series "Huff". Apple describes the titles as "a montage of surreal images [that] lures you into the drama and into the mind of its lead character."

Ryan McGinness

New works by Ryan McGinness are exhibited through November 5 (tomorrow) at Deitch Projects. If you miss that, however, his paintings are shown at Danziger Projects until November 26th.

Cut & Paste Design Competition

November 19th, 9PM
